The Dutch Italianates:
Seventeenth-Century Masterpieces from
Dulwich Picture Gallery, London

July 11, 2009 - September 20, 2009

About the Exhibition

This exhibition comprises 39 influential paintings by masters of the Dutch Italianate style. Italy has always exerted a powerful influence on artists and during the 17th century many Dutch artists—some who visited Italy and others who did not—infused their landscapes with the feel of the Roman Campagna.

The exhibition features works by Aelbert Cuyp, Nicolaes Berchem, Karel Dujardin, Philips Wouwermans, and Jan Weenix, among others.

Selected from the collection of The Dulwich Picture Gallery, England’s oldest public art gallery, these paintings are on a limited North American tour while the Dulwich is undergoing renovation.

This selection of works from the permanent collection has been lent by permission of the Trustees of Dulwich Picture Gallery, London. Exhibition tour organized by International Arts
& Artists, Washington, DC.
