Henry Clay Frick, Adelaide Howard Childs Frick, and their children lived in Clayton at the height of the Gilded Age, an era that not only witnessed immense wealth and progress, but also saw new challenges and startling inequity. On a guided tour of Clayton’s first floor, explore this pivotal time in our nation’s history through the experiences of the Frick family and other 19th-century Pittsburghers. Discover what it was like to live in this city at the dawn of modern America and consider how the legacy of the Gilded Age continues to affect us today.
Please note that due to ongoing conservation projects on Clayton’s upper floors, only first-floor tours are available at this time. Advance reservations are strongly recommended. View our site-wide COVID-19 policies here
