Posed Photography Policies

We encourage visitors to capture and share photography for non-commercial, personal use under the following guidelines:

Posed Group Photography Sessions

5 OR MORE SUBJECTS

• Posed group photography is welcomed Tuesdays through Fridays
• Posed group photography sessions are not permitted on Saturdays and Sundays — weekend participants will be directed to exit the property
• Posed group photography sessions are not permitted within The Frick Art Museum or The Car & Carriage Museum
• Posed group photography sessions are otherwise permitted on The Frick Pittsburgh's grounds, if they are not blocking or impeding visitors and other organizational business
• If the posed group photography session is deemed to be impeding visitor experience or other organizational business, the group will be asked to move and may be asked to exit the property
• The Frick maintains the right to direct group photography sessions to cease their activity or exit the property at any time

Posed Individual Photography Sessions

4 OR FEWER SUBJECTS

• Posed individual photography sessions (family portraits, engagement photos, senior portraits, and similar shoots of four (4) or fewer subjects) are permitted on The Frick Pittsburgh's grounds and in the Greenhouse, Tuesday through Sunday, if they are not blocking or impeding visitors and other organizational business
• Posed photography sessions are not permitted within The Frick Art Museum or the Car and Carriage Museum
• If the posed photography session is deemed to be impeding visitor experience or other organizational business, the group will be asked to move and may be asked to exit the property
• The Frick maintains the right to direct photography sessions to cease their activity or exit the property at any time

Photography Equipment and Site Usage

• Individuals and/or groups are not permitted to use Frick restrooms or other facilities as "get-ready" rooms for the purpose of a posed photography session
• Use of tripods or other stationary camera equipment is not permitted at any time on Frick property, outside or inside
• Only photography with hand-held devices (phones, hand-held cameras, tablets) is permitted
• Aerial (drone) photography is strictly prohibited
• Selfie sticks are permitted outside on the grounds, but are not permitted inside The Greenhouse, The Frick Art Museum, or The Car & Carriage Museum
• Photography of any kind is strictly prohibited inside the historic mansion, Clayton
• Visitors to The Frick Pittsburgh may be photographed, videotaped, or otherwise recorded. Visitors grant The Frick Pittsburgh permission to use photographs and/or audiovisual recordings.
• Photographs and videography cannot be published, sold, reproduced, or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner whatsoever
• The Frick Pittsburgh is not responsible for any uses of visitor photography that infringe upon third-party copyrights or other rights

Photography Inside the Museums

• Non-posed personal photography is permitted in the permanent collection galleries of The Frick Art Museum and The Car & Carriage Museum
• Non-posed personal photography is allowed in special exhibition galleries at The Frick Art Museum unless otherwise noted
• No flash is permitted inside The Frick Art Museum
• Visitors must maintain an 18" distance from any art or artifacts

Commercial & Business Photography Policy

We require photographers and videographers shooting for commercial or business use to obtain a permit in advance. Permits start at $150 with set-ups including one camera person using hand-held equipment only. Use of static equipment, such as tripods, requires an additional fee for staff time.

Requests for permits must be submitted at least 10 business days in advance and are subject to staff availability. Permits are non-refundable. In the case of inclement weather, permits can be rescheduled depending upon availability.
