Join us for a spirited Bal Folk dance evening featuring music by Lisa Tamres and Fabien Goulay of Pardon My French!
Light refreshments will be served. BYOB permitted. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket. In the event of inclement weather, the program will move indoors.
Advance registration and pre-payment are recommended; walk-ups will be accommodated as space allows.
Join us for a spirited Bal Folk dance evening featuring music by Lisa Tamres and Fabien Goulay of Pardon My French! Rooted in French and other Western European traditions, Bal Folk is a joyful social dance experience that brings people together through partner, set, and chain dances. The evening includes instruction, live music, and plenty of opportunities to dance, connect, and have fun. No partner or prior experience is necessary. Whether you dance, listen, or simply take in the atmosphere, come enjoy a special fall evening outdoors on the Frick's beautiful grounds.
About the Performers
Fabien Goulay is a native of Brittany who has been dancing for 30 years and teaching Breton dance for over two decades, including performing as part of the group Le Cercle d’Outre-Ille.
A dedicated enthusiast rather than a professional, Fabien has also played the diatonic accordion for 30 years. His passion is centered on traditional Breton music and dance, as well as the folk repertoire of Central France. He is a part of the Pittsburgh based band Pardon My French.
Lisa Tamres is a native of Pittsburgh and has been dancing and teaching traditional dances of America for over 40 years, and Balfolk for 20 years. She performed with the Coal Country Cloggers for 30 years and directed and performed with the Steel Town Stompers Lindy Hop Troupe for 6 years. She has been teaching various forms of traditional dances including Balfolk, Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Appalachian Clogging since 1989. Lisa also plays fiddle and is part of the Pittsburgh based band Pardon My French.
Lisa is excited to introduce more Balfolk in the United States and has been teaching Balfolk throughout the US and hosts dances in Pittsburgh
