Description:
Join Eve Straussman-Pflanzer as she investigates Artemisia Gentileschi's definitive work Judith and Holofernes, a quintessential example of early Baroque art. She will draw from her book Violence & Virtue to discuss the meanings found in the piece, the role of women artists in the early 17th century, and the depiction and fascination of violence during the Baroque era. Eve Straussmann-Pflanzer is Curator and Head of Italian and Spanish Paintings Department at National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
