Film Screening: Close to Vermeer

The Frick Pittsburgh's spring exhibition will feature the return of a painting by Johannes Vermeer to Pittsburgh after more than a century away. Celebrate by joining us for a special screening of Close to Vermeer. This 2023 documentary goes behind the scenes of the development of the recent blockbuster Vermeer exhibition at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and reveals everything from negotiations to get the Vermeers to the Netherlands to new technical knowledge gained by scanning the paintings layer by layer and the shocking news that one work may not be by Vermeer at all. The talk will begin with some celebratory bubbly and a brief talk by Dawn R. Brean, the Frick's Chief Curator and Director of Collections, about Henry Clay Frick's collection of Vermeers and our exciting upcoming exhibition.
