Immerse yourself in the folklore and intrigues of immigrant workers in early 20th century Pittsburgh through tabletop roleplaying game, Vaesen. Take the role of a character from the world photographed by Lewis Hine in his work for the 1906 Pittsburgh Survey and solve a mystery that weaves together industrial conflict and the mythological beliefs brought to Pennsylvania by workers from Europe and the South.
Between an introduction that leads you through the Lewis Hine Pictures America exhibition, and an opportunity to explore the gallery space after a discussion at the end, players will be divided into groups of 3-6 to solve a custom scenario of Vaesen. This supernatural horror-mystery game has been adapted to showcase the folklore inherited by the immigrant communities who made up Pittsburgh’s population in the final years of the Gilded Age. No experience is required; a game master will teach the rules and facilitate the game!
Due to the horror content included in the game, this program is 18+; advance registration and pre-payment are required. Registration includes refreshments and admission to the exhibition.
